This piece is inspired by the bird Molothrus bonariensis, known as “dziú” in the Mayan language of the Yucatán Peninsula. Artefacto Dziu is part of a series of black sculptures featuring a burnt finish using the yakisugi method, designed by Lørdag & Søndag in Mexico City and crafted by master artisan César Zamorano of Torno Tonalá, in Tonalá, Jalisco.
Fun fact: According to a Mayan myth, the dziú’s black plumage resulted from being burned while saving corn kernels from a great fire, thus preserving this vital crop for humanity.

Artefacto Dziu es parte de Serie de esculturas negras, de madera quemada al estilo yakisugi, diseñadas por Lørdag & Søndag en la Ciudad de México y realizadas  por el maestro César Zamorano de Torno Tonalá, en la ciudad de Tonalá, Jalisco.
 Dato curioso: De acuerdo al mito maya, el plumaje negro del dziuh se debe a que se quemó mientras salvaba los granos del maíz de un gran incendio, preservando este cultivo vital para la humanidad.
