This piece is inspired by the bird Molothrus bonariensis, known as "dziú" in the Mayan language of the Yucatán Peninsula. Artefacto Dziu is part of a series of black sculptures featuring a burnt finish using the yakisugi method, designed by Lørdag & Søndag in Mexico City and crafted by master artisan César Zamorano of Torno Tonalá, in Tonalá, Jalisco.Fun fact: According to a Mayan myth, the dziú's black plumage resulted from being burned while saving corn kernels from a great fire, thus preserving this vital crop for humanity.
