This lamp draws inspiration from the strength and technical sophistication of the Purépecha people, who for centuries resisted the expansion of the Mexica (Aztec) Empire. Their unprecedented metallurgical tradition endures to this day in the copper workshops of Michoacán.
ts shape evokes the copper barbed maces wielded by Purépecha warriors, weapons that are commonly known as "morning stars”. Morning star is coincidentally another name for the planet Venus when it appears at dawn.
Each Venus lamp is handcrafted using the hammered copper technique by master artisan Daniel Gómez of Santa Clara del Cobre, Michoacán.
